He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. —Psalm 113:9

Weekend Doings

Yesterday morning, as I languored on the couch buried under an afghan, the Sunday paper and various pets, I looked out the window at the cold, cold rain and said to myself, "Jean--" because I'm on a first name basis with myself, you see-- "your company just gave you a free membership to the health club next door. You can go run inside on your lunch hour tomorrow. You don't have to go run outside in the cold, cold rain this morning. Have another cup of coffee and relax."

Did I mention the new health club benefit? They just announced it last week. Matt gets to join free, too. My company is awesome.

My job, however, has its less than awesome moments. Like this morning, when I got to work and learned that CAG will be spending the day at the hospital with her son, who has appendicitis, poor kid. And so I have two unexpected luncheon meetings to cover. What this means for my running plans, I don't yet know. It probably just means I'll be taking a late lunch and going to the gym after the meetings are done, so long as nobody springs any big repro jobs on me this afternoon. Knock on particle board.

But my weekend was nothing but awesome. Or my Sunday was, at least. Saturday was household chore day, but it was also a pizza & movie night, so that was fun. But Sunday was my favorite kind of day all the way around. We slept in, and then when we finally both woke up we lazed around in bed for a good long while, listening to the soft rain on the roof until I got hungry enough to go do something about it and Matt got sleepy enough to doze off again. I got up to make pancakes, but since we were all out of eggs I settled for a hot bowl of cinnamon oat meal, then curled up on the couch with the aforementioned afghan, paper, pets and coffee for a solid hour of sweet, blessed "me" time. When Matt woke up he joined us on the sofa and we marathoned our Netflixed episodes of Nip/Tuck, and then The Bounty, one of Matt's old favorites. We never changed out of our PJs and we did nothing productive all day long, and the dreary fall weather outside made it all the more cozy inside. Bliss.

Today, busy-ness: the meetings, the running, plus a growing, neglected stack of paperwork to log and file. After work there will be errands, including a stop at Target to return one of the emergency dresses I picked up in Galveston but never wore and don't really like that much, and to stockpile long-sleeved tee-shirts for the winter. I might also stop by Old Navy to check out their coats. I meant to get in there last week when their coats were on special, but what with the car trouble and the ride sharing, it didn't happen as planned. So hopefully last week's advertised prices are still good. I've been sporting the same lime green chenille pea coat for about ten winters now, and it's beyond time for a change.

Halloween linkage is forthcoming, as well as maybe a more formal blog post, if time allows. Later.
