Cross-polinate my neurotic affinity for making lists with my love of all things pretty and shiny and DIY, and what do you have? A new obsession with A Print a Day and all of the lovely, lovely free list and other stationery templates posted there. The artist also fills a more timely need with holiday prints, like adorable gift tags & stickers, and of course, a Christmasy list pad for keeping all of your last-minute gift shopping straight.
Now if only my printer wasn't all out of colored ink. I guess I should add that to my shopping list.

The Solace of the List
Are you a list person? I so very definitely am. Making lists gives me a sense of comfort and control that is just this side of irrationally wacky. Or maybe it's on the other side and I crossed that line five turn-offs ago. Is there a way I can tell? One that doesn't involve helping to pay the student loans of a person who went to school for six to eight years to earn a piece of paper that says they can officially tell me so?I know! I'll make a list!
All kidding aside, the truth is that list-making has saved my sanity on a really big number of occasions. When I have so much to do I can't figure out where to start? Make a list. When life dumps a big truckload of doody on top of me and I don't know how to dig myself out? Make a list. When I've got a big decision to make? List. Wanting to feel organized without having to actually organize anything that isn't bullet points on paper? Say it with me now... LIST!
I think that last item sums it up, why I'm so list-dependent. On the To Do variety, making a check-mark gives me a lovely sense of accomplishment. On every other kind, it helps me organize my thoughts, realize my options, gives me the feeling, even if I never do one blasted thing that's on the list, that I am making a PLAN. And having a PLAN means I am in CONTROL. That's right, move along, no chaos to see here. See? I have a list to prove it.
To illustrate how far this goes, I even have my own wiki. The first page of this wiki is a list of all of the projects that I'm either committed to, need to commit to, or wish I had the time to do, in that order. And each item in this first list is a link to a sub-list, a To Do list of things that need to happen to accomplish that project. Some of my sub-lists even have sub-lists, and on and on and on to infinity and beyond.
Neurotic? Sure, but who isn't these days? If you share this particular neuroses, then you are a kindred spirit and we should be friends. And also you might want to check out Wikispaces, where you can create and organize your own list-wikis completely free of charge, listing and linking and sublisting and interlinking all of your lists into a thing of freakish obsessive-compulsive beauty that only you can fully appreciate and understand. This is where my sanity lives. Won't you join me there?

Observing things
A few observations:
1. If enough disgruntled secretaries copy enough angry e-mails to enough managers, meetings will be called and action will be taken. Don't piss off the secretaries.
2. Show me a homeless dog with a sad story at a time when I have not a single good reason not to take it in, and very soon I will be the owner of a new dog.
3. I forget things very easily, such as, what I was going to say for item #3.
4. This looks like a really cool idea for a really cool book series.
5. I am 35 years old. I do not feel 35. Sometimes, I feel 25. Other times, I feel 95. Occasionally, both of these at once. But never 35.
6. As I do research for my potential new dog ownership situation, two things about Fizzgigg are becoming clear to me. One is that I did not, in fact, own a toy poodle all these years, but instead owned either a Bichon Frise or a Bichon/poodle mix. This would explain why he was so much cuter than any other poodle I've ever seen. I know I'm biased, but he was. Second is that it's really, really likely, considering all of his many and varied ailments and defects, that he originally came from a puppy mill. This makes me so sad, but so much more glad, too, that I was able to give him a good life.
7. House hunting really kind of blows.
8. I'm thinking about going blonde.
9. Whole Foods stopped carrying my beloved dry roasted edamame. Whole Foods hates me.
10. Lists like this really should end on a nice, round number. Otherwise it just looks odd.

Weekend highlights
Randomly, and most notably:
And...that was my weekend, in a nut.
How was your weekend?
- Went house hunting. Found two possibilities-a great house in an iffy neighborhood and an iffy condo in a great neighborhood. Hopefully if we keep looking we'll find a happy medium.
- Sewed a liner for my aforementioned new purse. Realized I don't have the right color thread to attach said liner to said purse. Sad.
- Watched BSG. Reactions: LIKEWHOA! And also, SQUEE!
- Had mixed feelings about "The Doctor's Daughter" -- both the ep and the character.
- Worked out on eliptical to The Takeover: Episode 1 and then took a bubble bath to Steampod: Episode 1. Enjoyed both heartily. The workout, less so.
- Worked on memorial Fizzgigg scrapbook and cried a little more. :(
- Daydreamed about house in item #1, with its great back yard and great big laundry room that would double perfectly as a craft room.
- Watched Anne of Avonlea and cried even more. Still crushing big time on Gilbert Blythe. May have to read those books again.
- Tried Baked Tofu recipe. Was less than whelmed with result. Mixed it in with homemade fried rice, which made it better.
- Made my own oatmeal packets, which took about a minute and saved me a bunch of dollars. And also are healthier.
And...that was my weekend, in a nut.
How was your weekend?

Ambitious much?
My plan for the afternoon:
1. Eat something.
2. Go fill my car with expensive, expensive fuel and get some sunshine. And possibly a latte.
3. Come back here and Get My Life Together.
I think that's all doable, don't you?

Monday Memeage: Ten Top-Five Television Lists
Picked up from Fenchurche:
Note: These aren't so much "favorites" as they are "shows my Monday-morning-fog-wrapped-brain is capable of remembering."
Back in the Day: 5 TV Shows You Loved As A Kid
1. The Muppet Show
2. You Can't Do That On Television
3. Danger Mouse
4. Moonlighting
5. Miami Vice
Who Would You Do?: 5 TV Characters You Would...Well, It's Self-Explanatory
1. Spike
2. Wesley Windham-Pryce
3. Mal Reynolds
4. Dean Winchester
5. Dean Cain's Clark Kent
What? No, No, I Don't Watch That...: 5 Guilty Pleasure TV Shows
1. Crowned--What? There's nothing else on!
2. Moment of Truth--see above, and also, my remote was broken and I was knitting and the cat was on my lap.
3. Big Brother. This used to not be a guilty pleasure. Blame the Donatos that I can't hold my head up about still caring about this show.
4. Any celebrity "reality" show on VH-1.
5. America's Next Top Model--also not really a "guilty pleasure," but the loopier and more desperate Tyra gets, the harder it is not to be embarrassed that I watch this show. Add to that, Saliesha. Bleah.
Wow: 5 TV Moments You Still Remember (And Probably Won't Forget)
1. Lois Lane's de-glasses-ing of Clark Kent, right after he proposed to her - Lois & Clark
2. Dave & Maddie's furniture-breaking roll on the floor - Moonlighting
3. Nine kissing Rose to absorb her Tardis energy, and then getting killed by it - Doctor Who
4. The Post-Modern Prometheus dancing at a Cher concert - The X-Files
5. Claire waking up on the autopsy table with her chest flayed open - Heroes
I left out the entire Whedonverse because there's just too much to narrow it down. "Can we rest?" House-demolition sex. End-of-musical kissing. Sending Angel to hell. Wesley shooting his dad. The introduction of Illyria. Willow flaying Warren. Angel locking the lawyers in with Darla and Dru. Mal kicking the hench-guy into the jet engine. "Big Damn Heroes, Sir!" I could go on. And on and on and on.
"Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs": 5 TV Theme Songs You Know (and Love) By Heart
1. The Facts of Life
2. Duck Tales
3. The Muppet Show
4. Green Acres
5. Animaniacs
Eh: 5 Shows You Just Can't Get Into
1. Any incarnation of Stargate.
2. Flash Gordon
3. House
4. Reaper
5. Project Runway
The Starting Line-Up: 5 Channels You Go To First When You Sit Down to Watch TV
1. Food Network
2. HGTV
3. TLC
4. Travel Channel
5. BBC-America
This Is An Environment of Welcoming, and You Should Just Get the Hell Out Of Here: 5 TV Characters You Could Do Without
1. Maya - Heroes
2. Fred Burkel - Angel
3. Agent Diana Fowley - X-Files
4. Agent Monica Rayes - X-Files
5. Dr. Polaski - Star Trek: TNG
That's What She Said: 5 Quotes That Still Resonate
Again, I'm having to work really hard to think of quotes that don't come from the Whedonverse, and within said 'verse, there are too many to pick from. That said:
1. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood. Blood screaming inside you to work its will.
2. Love makes you do the wacky.
3. "I've got a cramp." "In your pants?"
4. I mock you with my monkey pants!
5. Go monkey! Choose monkey!
Gimme More: 5 Shows You Can Never Get Enough Of
1. Buffy (obviously)
2. Angel
3. Firefly
4. Farscape
5. Star Trek

10 Things I've Done That You Probably Haven't
Per Scalzi's request:
1. Had a gerbil give birth in my hand
2. Broke into a parking garage to have a romantic picnic on the top level because it had a spectacular view
3. Got thrown out of a parking garage by security
4. Managed a rock band
5. Almost killed myself on a trampoline
6. Caught a peeping tom watching me and my then-fiance through the window while we made out
7. Had my feet stalked by a foot fetishist
8. Been a first-round interviewer and backstage PA for a beauty pageant
9. Performed data entry for a televangelist
10. Made the front page of the local paper for getting my leg stuck in a public pool (I also once got stuck on a public water slide. Clearly, I have water park issues.)

And now for something completely not at all different...
Ah, yes, every blogger's go-to for days when they're too busy/tired/distracted/lazy to craft a meaningful post: the random list.
So, randomly...
@ If you're going to ComiCon, I don't like you anymore. [/petty jealousy]
@ I have no one to go see Order of the Phoenix with! Woe.
@ I am, however, seeing Spamalot this Saturday. Yay!
@ I still miss Rose. And I still plan to expound on that here.
@ Re: Big Brother 6 - three words: shallow, self-absorbed, idiots. In other words, the usual. This needs no expounding.
@ And yet, I will watch it anyway, and I will love it.
@ Because grown women who have breakdowns in public over not liking their pictures are pure entertainment gold. GOLD, I say!
@ And because I am shallow.
@ The other day, Husband and I had lunch with a friend of his from work and his wife, and they collectively share all of our obsessions. This qualifies them for potential new BFF-dom.
@ ...but it's probably still too soon to ask them to go see Harry Potter with me. Boo.
And that's my list. There will be actual content here tomorrow. Yes, really.

Random is the new black.
Things I haven't mentioned lately:
~ Matt picked up an effects processor for his guitar the other day. Now it's like a round-the-clock rock concert at my house. Whee?
~ We read the first issue of Buffy: Season 8 last night. That whee gets no question mark. It's exclamation points all the way, baby.
~ Tess and I saw Man of La Mancha last Saturday. I've had the title song and, alternately, "Impossible Dream" stuck in my head all week.
~ Tonight my #2 nephew is hosting his baby girl's first birthday party. I've been Great Auntie Jean for a whole year now, people. Fun should be had. Pictures will be taken.
~ Matt was going to take me out this weekend to see 300 (which Captain Tightpants declared to be "bitchin'") and then treat me to a nice dinner in celebration of our 6 monthiversary, but then we both decided we want to see 300 on IMAX. So we'll go next week, after payday. It's just as well because I'd just as soon stay home and rest this weekend. Why?
~ I'm very, very sleepy. That's why.

31.
This month's Real Simple (the only magazine I subscribe to these days--probably because it actually makes me feel capable of being a halfway decent housekeeper (and no, this is not a paid post. I pimp because I love)) had a neat suggestion for the new year: for each month, list 31 (or 30, or, er... 28, depending on the month) tasks, and assign each task it's own day. They needn't necessarily be chores or things that must be done; they can be fun and/or relaxing things, too (or even exclusively), like taking a nap or going to a museum you've been meaning to visit or buying a pretty knick-knack for the living room.
I'm liking this idea, although I'm not so sure about the scheduling a task per day bit. That would make me feel too pressured to stick to the schedule, and then I'd end up abandoning my list completely. I think I'd rather just make up a list of 31 things to pick from each day. Either way, this is right up there with the whole 15 minuts a day principle of getting things done.
Anyway. I'm not going to share my entire list (because I'm tired, and also because I haven't thought of a whole 31 things yet), but here's my top ten for January:
I'm don't know yet what else is going on there, but I'm pretty sure it will include spending an entire day in bed like Matt and I did on Tuesday, snuggling and reading and napping and playing board games. That was awesome, and definitely worth repeating.
As you can see, I'm ready for the new year. I'm ready to have wedding plans and honeymoons and holidays out of the way to start fresh and get caught up on my life, remembering what it's like not to have the better part of an entire year consumed by planning for a single day. There's still aftermath to deal with--besides the thank you cards (which I'm still well within the bounds of etiquette not having sent them yet; according to the rules I have six months, and it's not quite been four) we also still have to put wedding announcements in the local papers and order prints of our wedding pictures. And there will be the moving, which we'll probably time to coincide with Matt's spring break (did I mention he's enrolled for the spring semester?), which leaves us two and a half months to go through our crap and get rid of anything we don't want to take with us. Expect eBay auctions.
...
That last thing's going on my list, too.
- Must Do:
- Finish my thank you cards. Finally.
- Make a doctor's appointment. Also finally.
- Make an appointment to get Fizzgigg's teeth cleaned. Also also finally.
- Drag Matt to the bank and create a joint account under my new name. At last.
- Shop for a second car. About friggin' time.
Wanna Do: - Go on a date to a new (to us) restaurant.
- Have Chinese take-out and a Firefly marathon.
- Meet Tess for lunch.
- Call people I haven't talked to in forever, like I was supposed to on Christmas day.
- Cook and freeze a huge batch of Zone-friendly breakfast burritos.
