He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. —Psalm 113:9

Observing things

A few observations:

1. If enough disgruntled secretaries copy enough angry e-mails to enough managers, meetings will be called and action will be taken. Don't piss off the secretaries.

2. Show me a homeless dog with a sad story at a time when I have not a single good reason not to take it in, and very soon I will be the owner of a new dog.

3. I forget things very easily, such as, what I was going to say for item #3.

4. This looks like a really cool idea for a really cool book series.

5. I am 35 years old. I do not feel 35. Sometimes, I feel 25. Other times, I feel 95. Occasionally, both of these at once. But never 35.

6. As I do research for my potential new dog ownership situation, two things about Fizzgigg are becoming clear to me. One is that I did not, in fact, own a toy poodle all these years, but instead owned either a Bichon Frise or a Bichon/poodle mix. This would explain why he was so much cuter than any other poodle I've ever seen. I know I'm biased, but he was. Second is that it's really, really likely, considering all of his many and varied ailments and defects, that he originally came from a puppy mill. This makes me so sad, but so much more glad, too, that I was able to give him a good life.

7. House hunting really kind of blows.

8. I'm thinking about going blonde.

9. Whole Foods stopped carrying my beloved dry roasted edamame. Whole Foods hates me.

10. Lists like this really should end on a nice, round number. Otherwise it just looks odd.

Weekend highlights

Randomly, and most notably:
  • Went house hunting. Found two possibilities-a great house in an iffy neighborhood and an iffy condo in a great neighborhood. Hopefully if we keep looking we'll find a happy medium.

  • Sewed a liner for my aforementioned new purse. Realized I don't have the right color thread to attach said liner to said purse. Sad.

  • Watched BSG. Reactions: LIKEWHOA! And also, SQUEE!

  • Had mixed feelings about "The Doctor's Daughter" -- both the ep and the character.

  • Worked out on eliptical to The Takeover: Episode 1 and then took a bubble bath to Steampod: Episode 1. Enjoyed both heartily. The workout, less so.

  • Worked on memorial Fizzgigg scrapbook and cried a little more. :(

  • Daydreamed about house in item #1, with its great back yard and great big laundry room that would double perfectly as a craft room.

  • Watched Anne of Avonlea and cried even more. Still crushing big time on Gilbert Blythe. May have to read those books again.

  • Tried Baked Tofu recipe. Was less than whelmed with result. Mixed it in with homemade fried rice, which made it better.

  • Made my own oatmeal packets, which took about a minute and saved me a bunch of dollars. And also are healthier.

And...that was my weekend, in a nut.

How was your weekend?

Musings

  • Jason Castro reminds me of a long lost Hanson brother raised by Rastafarians.

  • Rastafarian is a fun word.

  • Random strange guys who call me "sweetheart" as they pass me on the sidewalk do not flatter me or make me feel good about myself. They just make me feel...ick. Really, ick. It's right up there with the twits who command me to smile. It's demeaning, belittling, irritating, and not to mention incredibly presumptuous. If you're a guy who does this? I don't know a single woman who likes or appreciates this sort of thing. So knock it off.

  • I'm willing to give the guy from this morning the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't shooting for any of the above. But I figure they're never shooting for any of the above. Nevertheless, this is how it's usually received. So again, just stop it.

  • Drivers in Tulsa are just friggin' insane. Myself excluded, natch.

  • But seriously, I was recently given the bird AGAIN for no discernible reason whatsoever, other than perhaps that I signaled to change lanes. And that's exactly what's wrong with drivers in this town. DRIVERS OF TULSA: You are SUPPOSED TO SIGNAL. Signaling is NOT an ACT OF AGGRESSION. It's a polite notice of intent. Signals are for OTHER DRIVERS' BENEFIT, not for your own, except in that warning people that you're about to slow down to turn or get in front of them is a good way to prevent yourself from getting rear-ended.

  • Um, wow. Wing, Glark & Sars are leaving TWoP. I've had my issues with those guys over the years, but that site also was the foundation upon which my crazed Buffy obsession was built (when it was still Mighty Big TV), and the forums served as a springboard for some fun, if fleeting, friendships. I know the site itself isn't going anywhere, but it just won't seem the same without them. It's definitely the end of an era.
