Deadlines and Donuts

I have deadlines. I do not have donuts, which makes me sad. The alliteration, however, makes me happy, so I guess that balances things out... nah, it doesn't. I'd rather have donuts.

The point is, I'm in head down mode for the next couple of days while I get things done for my clients. But don't worry, my shiny readers, for I shall leave you with a shiny video to tide you over until my return. Here for your viewing edification is the plot of Lost, re-enacted by cats in one minute:

By the way, I haven't seen the Lost finale yet. If you spoil me, kittens will cry. Or maybe just I will. Either way, please don't.

Things That Made Me LOL Today

Fantasy author Cathrynne M. Valente describes a day spent searching for coffee in Augusta, Maine. I thought Tulsa had problems, but we have plenty of Starbucks and no (known) axe-murderers buried under any of our cross-roads, so at least we're two up on Augusta.

And speaking of soul-sucking...

Don't trust anyone you meet online (via Wil Wheaton).

Both of these are potentially NSFW due to F-bombs.

I has a cheezburger kinda day

I'm having a day, people. The kind that's filled with bad news -- nothing devastating, just disappointing enough to ruin your day -- and where things that should be simple are riddled with complications. It's the kind of day that makes you want to throw up your hands in surrender and just go watch TV or hide in bed so nothing else can go wrong. But since I don't have that luxury, I did what I always do when I need some emergency cheering up -- I headed over to I Can Has Cheezburger and kept scrolling until smiling came easily for me again.

In the off chance that you're having that kind of day, too (I sincerely hope you're not), here are a few highlights from my visit. Because things are beyond bad if anthropomorphized kittens with bad grammar can't cheer you up.

Too true.

Kittens in boxes never fail to be hilarious.

I did not know that "Om nom nom" was a real thing that cats could say. Go fig.

Are you cheered up yet? I hope so. I know I sure am.

XKCD Instant Classic

Whedonesque has been linking to this XKCD strip all week; but in case you're the rare Browncoat who doesn't follow that blog, I thought I'd share it here. It's a five-part series centering on a fan's skateboard race against Nathan Fillion, and that description does no justice to the hilarity that ensues.

Part one is linked up there in the image. Here are parts two, three and four. Part five should get posted tomorrow.

Hee hee hee!

Hilarity ensues.

Intentionally Hilarious

Bear Grylls would also bite the head off of Gollum for a snack. And I would watch and retch while my husband laughed at me.

Hellboy gets around -- I saw the Ghost Hunters one during the Twilight Zone marathon this weekend, and I laughed and laughed. I love Ron Perlman.

Unintentionally Hilarious

Things I swear I'm really going to get around to doing someday, honest:

Organizing my Flickr account, with tags and commentary and an upgraded account and everything.

Posting all of the crap we need to get rid of before we move on eBay or Craig's List or Freecycle.

Cleaning the mud dauber nests off of my bike and airing up the tires so I can start riding again.

Dry cleaning my wedding dress.

Finishing my novel. I really mean it this time.

America is older now.

We celebrated our Independence Day by giving our potential new house another look-see and writing up an offer. Of course, as soon as we walked out of the realtor's office, Husband started having second thoughts about that house and seeing the merits of another one we looked at that he thought he didn't like as well. But our offer was pretty low and is likely to be rejected or countered, anyway, so I guess we'll just wait and go from there.

After that, we went home, where my Big Sis and BIL were waiting with their adorable and adorably precocious granddaughter, and I was thrilled, because I really cannot get enough of that kid. Then we ate hot dogs, and then we both lay down for a long, long nap, and then we ate more hot dogs and drank some beer and watched some Twilight Zone and teased the cats while listening to our neighbors shoot off fireworks. Not the most exciting July Fourth I've ever had, but certainly not the worst.

I hope you guys had a good Fourth, too, regardless of what country you live in.

Ambitious much?

My plan for the afternoon:

1. Eat something.

2. Go fill my car with expensive, expensive fuel and get some sunshine. And possibly a latte.

3. Come back here and Get My Life Together.

I think that's all doable, don't you?

The Secret Angst of Cookie Monster Addict Revealed

How can they be so callous? Me know there something wrong with me, but who in Sesame Street doesn't suffer from mental disease or psychological disorder? They don't call the vampire with math fetish monster, and me pretty sure he undead and drinks blood. No one calls Grover monster, despite frequent delusional episodes and obsessive-compulsive tendencies. And the obnoxious red Grover—oh, what his name?—Elmo! Yes, Elmo live all day in imaginary world and no one call him monster. No, they think he cute. And Big Bird! Don't get me started on Big Bird! He unnaturally gigantic talking canary! How is that not monster?

How many ways can you melt a chocolate bunny?

Gruesome. And yet also mouthwatering. And in case any of y'all are getting any ideas, don't be wasting your chocolate rabbits. If you don't want to eat them, send 'em my way.

Hope everyone had a nice Easter weekend.

Ennui and YouTube go together like a 'burger and fries. Mmm, fries.

Sometimes I get burned out on putting out (creatively, that is) to the point that just the thought of writing or blogging another word almost causes physical pain. In those times, it's generally best if I take a break for a few days and just absorb other people's output. This week has been one of those times.

Of course, it doesn't help that I've felt fairly crappy for most of the week. I didn't catch the plague, thank goodness. I think my problem has just been a great big stew of reacting to the dismal weather, allergy headaches, indigestion and not enough sleep to be able to take those things in stride. I mean, cold, wet weather pretty much makes me want to do nothing but sleep, eat and read anyway, without figuring sleep deprivation and physical ailments into the equation.

Today I'm no less useless than I have been all week, and my short attention span has been kept occupied by YouTube hilarity and other forms of video wackiness all day. To wit:

and

Substitute "Fred Thompson" for "Ron Paul" and this is totally me.

Hi there! Actual blogging will commence tomorrow.

I finally have a break in my day long enough to eke out a few NaNo words. Which means there won't be much in the way of content today, folks. And so I leave you with this (via Scalzi), which made my whole day:
