He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. —Psalm 113:9

I guess I could have crushed her with my mighty load-bearing hips...

My New Year's resolution is coming along pretty well so far. I enjoyed plenty of not-so-healthy food over the long holiday weekend, but yesterday at lunchtime I was back at the gym. I'm back on the Zone plan, but I'm still letting myself have a couple of pieces of the loads and loads of chocolate still lying about the house every night, and refusing to feel guilty about it. Ooh! and yesterday? At the gym? When the skinny, buff chick who always struts around the weight machines came in? I lifted my chin, thought to myself, "eh, I'm prettier than her anyway," and stood my ground instead of scurrying out of her way. Granted, I'm not sure I really believed that, and it's quite possible she could have kicked my hinder if she wanted, but even so: one giant step for Jean's self-image.

This is a good blog to check out if you'd like some advice on keeping those health and diet resolutions. I'm particularly impressed with this post advocating small changes that add up over time. Some of these I already put into effect, and are how I lost weight to begin with. Some of them are new to me, but I'm going to give them a try, like making myself leave just three bites on my plate at the end of every meal. There are also some tips I should follow on back safety, to keep from throwing my back out whenever I get up the nerve to head over to the machines for some weight training. Or, y'know, bending over to put my shoes on in the locker room.

I'm not so good at sticking to the healthy eating and exercise resolution. So much chocolate and crackers in my house.

My problem is sweet needs a salt chaser and vice versa. :)

I hear ya. Over the holidays I developed an affinity for buttery popcorn with a hot chocolate/Perma-Frost chaser. THAT'S a hard habit to put aside, let me tell ya.
