I ended up going with a chicken strip dinner from Sonic. I haven't had one of these in a couple of years, at least, but I remember them being better. I remember great big strips of breaded chicken and gravy thick enough to stand them up in. What I got today was finger-sized chicken fingers with gravy-flavored water. Very disappointing. But I subbed onion rings for French fries, and those were all I anticipated them to be.
Anyway.
Back when I ran my novel's query hook through Miss Snark's crapometer, lo these few months ago, I'd be lying if I said none of the Snarkling feedback crept under my skin. But somebody in there asked a really good question: Why my protagonist? Why would the faeries choose him for world saveage over, say, Sarah Michelle Gellar or David Boreanaz? I dismissed the question at the time, thinking I knew the answer, and so would the asker, if they ever actually read my novel. But the more I pondered the question the less satisfied I was with the answer I had going in.
I think what my subconscious was doing all those weeks that I couldn't seem to force myself to write my novel was coming up with a better answer; and I guess it's a good thing that I didn't keep forging ahead, because the new answer changes pertinear everything. I don't think I quite realized the full impact this new answer would have on the entire novel until this morning. Looks like now I get to go back to the beginning and start all over again...AGAIN.

So ever since you invited me to, I've been lurking around your new blog. I never feel like I have anything important enough to say to comment, but now I’ve realized that there are some things I would like to share:
1. How Buffy Changed My Life Essay Contest (being judged by Joss) I think you could write something nifty if you already haven't. Go here: http://www.myspace.com/darkhorsecomics
2. Have you seen the preview of the Buffy comic that affirms that Buffy WAS NOT with the Immortal!!! Squee!
3. Heroes is an AMAZING show which is really peaking my interest right now and I’m glad it’s keeping someone else on the edge of her seat!
4. I used to never floss, until I found the research stating that flossing can help prevent Alzheimer’s. As my grandma died of Alzheimer’s, learning that fact really put me (and my husband) into the flossing mood.
5. Gaining a new perspective on your novel can cause stress, but it seems like your new idea has given you an even better handle on your project! Good luck!
Ok, I’ll stop taking up your time now!

No, come back! Hey, it's not like people are just lining up to comment here, now is it? I'm lonely. Keep me company.
1. I thought about entering that contest, but I just couldn't find the time for it. How awesome would that have been to win, though?
2. I KNOW!!! And OMG I haven't been able to get ANYONE to talk to me about it! That one line fixed everything about TGIQ for me. Is it Wednesday yet? Squee!
3. LOVE Heroes. I don't know how I'm going to make it till April 23rd. Oh wait, yes I do--I'll have the Buffy comic to distract me.
4. Yikes, really? That's a pretty good incentive to floss, right there.
5. Thanks! I definitely needed some perspective. I've been writing this thing off and on for a few years now, and every time I start to gain momentum something comes along to derail me, whether it's just life or some flaw in the story rearing its head at me. I'm feeling really good about this latest take, though. I think I've finally got all the holes worked out.
Thank you for coming out of lurkdom. Please stay.
