Erin Go Braugh!

shamrock cookies by dacotahsgirlIn honor of this fine excuse to get fluthered holy day, I herewith share with you the little speech I wrote up for our minister to recite, in lieu of the traditional exchanging of the rings speech, as we presented each other our Claddaghs:
[Husband] and Jean have chosen to exchange Irish Claddagh rings as the symbol of their union. The claddagh’s design represents love, loyalty and friendship -- all of the qualities inherent in a good marriage. The heart, symbolizing love, is held up by two hands which represent friendship, faith, and trust. The hands on Jean’s ring appear as a pair of Trinity knots which denote the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, further symbolizing this couple’s acknowledgment that their marriage is held up by God. Upon the heart is also set a crown, which represents loyalty. Worn on the right hand, this ring is a symbol of friendship and promise. But worn on the left hand, with the heart pointing inwards, it carries a meaning of deepest and utmost commitment: “Let our love and friendship reign forever, never to be separated.”

Isn't that sweet? Now go find some green Guinness and get sozzled! And have a happy St. Pat's.
