Because "commercial" doesn't have to mean "stupid." Or "like Dan Brown." Same diff.
For Dwight: Jim Butcher's Live Journal is a (sporadically updated) practical course on writing entertaining, commercially viable fiction. What it is NOT is a formula. What it IS is a set of tools, some of them very basic and fundamental but nonetheless essential, with which to equip yourself in order to build an entertaining, emotionally fulfilling story. I'm not looking to create the next Harry Dresden (or even the next Harry Potter), but this advice has been an immense help to me, regardless.
