MyNoEdMo Progress: Days 7 & 8

Days 7 and 8 of this souped-up novel editing schedule went according to plan. I'm pretty proud of the progress I've made so far. I'm almost to the novel's half-way point, which just a couple of weeks ago I was beginning to despair I'd never reach.

The only thing I lament is that apparently editing more than an hour each day AND keeping a daily blogging schedule (in addition to my paying work) is too ambitious, and something's gotta give. That would be the blogging. Well, that would actually be the planned-out, professional-level posts I've been planning to roll out each weekday -- obviously I've still got the time and energy for stream-of-conscious self-involved updates. And, really, who doesn't?

I just hope that this will all be worth it. What I fear is that I've been working on this novel so long that I've lost all perspective and ability to tell whether it's actually any good, or something anybody outside my inner circle would actually want to read. I'm afraid I'm going to put in all this hard work to get this thing polished up and start the great agent hunt only to end up with a big stack of rejection letters and a battered sense of self-worth at the end of it all.

But that's the risk that all writers take, isn't it? It's the unavoidable, shark-infested waters we all have to swim through if we want to play in the big leagues. And if nothing else, at least this novel will finally, at long last, be done, and I can move on to one of the other half-dozen stories that have been percolating in my noggin all this time.

Don't forget to see how the other MyNoEdMo Players are coming along:

Okay, repeat after me . . . I'm a writer and I'm amazing. Got it?

Good.

Also, you're a Wiffer which absolutely guarantees you're amazing because well, we're all amazing damn it.

Get the work finished then dive into something new. Send this sucker out to readers/agents/whomever and keep going. It's all any of us can do. Personally I've fallen off the wagon a little the last day or two . . . which I think I'll blog about when I'm done here.

Glad you're keeping to your schedule. Keep up the great work.
